Winemaker Notes

This beautifully aromatic wine leaps out of the glass with concentrated notes of red currant, boysenberry, cassis, roasted coffee and dark chocolate, along with savory undertones and notions of sweet oak. On the palate it is rich and mouthcoating, with a seamless texture and supple tannins framing luxurious layers of dark berry fruit, barrel spice and fresh herbs.

Blend: 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot, 14% Merlot, 12% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc

Blended from 44% Cabernet Sauvignon; 36% Merlot; and smaller amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cab Franc, this red is angular and quite focused. Concentrated tarry notes arrive early with a swath of blackberry preserves and brown-sugared apple skins; as the wine opens up, it remains sensationally plush while bringing in flavors of clove and sage.

COMMENTARY: The 2019 Chappellet Mountain Cuvée is the quintessential Napa Valley red wine. This blend of Bordeaux grape varieties is well-built and lasting on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine shows up with deep aromas and flavors of black fruit, dried leaves, and hints of flowers. Pair it with grilled lamb and enjoy! (Tasted: May 19, 2021, San Francisco, CA)
