Winemaker's Notes
The 2018 pessimist is a very dark wine that offers gorgeous crème de cassis, black cherry, boysenberries, and toasted vanilla beans accompanied with sweet tannins and purity of fruit. Firm, yet elegant tannins balance the powerhouse of fruit and lead to a strong, lasting finish of black pepper, pipe tobacco, and spicy oak.
Blend: 52% Syrah 26% Zinfandel 18% Petite Sirah 3% Tannat 1% Grenache
Critical Acclaim
Robert Parker: 91 points
The Wine Advocate - "Made by the Daou Brothers and sourced from different vineyards spread throughout Paso Robles, the 2014 Pessimist is a ripe, sexy and ready to go blend of 52% Syrah, 26% Zinfandel, 18% Petite Sirah, 3% Tannat and a splash of Grenache. Aged 11 months in 50% new French oak, it has tons of ripe cassis, vanilla and chocolaty notes to go with a brilliantly textured, fruit-loaded feel on the palate. You won't find this level of texture and depth at this price very often and this crowd-pleaser will drink well for several years.
