Choosing the hops of Citra, Mosaic and Columbus variety, Calusa employs the universal cheat code for hoppy beer for their flagship, New England styled IPA.
Hazy gold and building a rich ivory froth, Zote puts the Hazy IPA on the Florida map with a burst of tropical, berry, citronella and herbal fragrances. Its radiant perfume leads into a mild pastry laden malty sweetness of shortbread, agave and a hint of candied taffy for extra balance.
As the hops unfold on the middle palate, its the tangy brightness of orange, lemon and passionfruit that strike first in a racy fruit punch medley. As additional flavors of lime, dark berry and red grapefruit join the mix, an herbal flavor develops with the backbone of cedar, spruce, tea and fresh cut grassiness.
Medium bodied and trending malty-dry, the fruit flavors trend stronger with a tea and hemp presence in a moderately bitter, slightly tart finish. A linger of muddled fruit peels, grasses and herbs trail into a medium long aftertaste while the alcohol applies a pep of gin for dryness and brightness.
